Growth

Life got pretty lifey lately.

I won’t bore you with the dumb details. I’ll skip over the part about the housing crisis in Nashville and the sad state of healthcare in America. For now.

I’ll just say — it was a hell of a time.

And that people and plants got me through it.

The people who offered up their guest bedrooms when I needed somewhere to stay. Who gave me water and snacks when we both knew I was about to have a long day. Who formed genius ideas I never would have come up with on my own, who made me laugh with vengeful schemes. The people who shared contacts, guidance and solutions.

The plants that kept growing despite all the drama. The strawberries that decided to make their debut the morning after a night of sheltering from a nearby tornado. The first peeks of purple blooming on the lavender. The new leaves uncurling on the persimmon tree. The cilantro seedlings that sprouted somewhere along the way. All of which have given me daily awe and distraction from the less attractive aspects of the past couple of weeks.

If this song does it for you, I invite you to dig into the story (stories) of a woman named Lilith. Especially the part about a she-demon with bird feet and wings visiting a man in his dreams. Seems like Taylor has.

And while you’re at it, explore the new one I’ve been writing the past several years.

*shoutout to the people who absolutely adore it

QUOTE OF THE WEEK

...It turned out this man worked for the Dalai Lama. And he said - gently - that they believe when a lot of things start going wrong all at once, it is to protect something big and lovely that is trying to get itself born - and that this something needs for you to be distracted so that it can be born as perfectly as possible. I believe this to be true. And I especially believe it when other people’s things are breaking down.
