And Yet

Calendula officinalis

Pot marigolds are back, baby. I just noticed them in the front yard this morning but there’s already all kinds of growth — already a bud! — so apparently they’ve been around.

Waiting for me to slow down, to look at the ground, to remember. Or simply minding their own business. Maybe a mix of both.

At any rate, my jaw dropped when I saw them.

“OH MY GOD HI”

“WHAT ON EARTH”

“LOOK AT YOU”

“WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN”

I swear everything was dead the last time I checked on that flower bed. And yet, here we are again.
